We’re the Church!

It is very easy to badmouth the church. In fact, people do it every now and then, and especially when there is something of national matter that needs a moral opinion or summon.

What always shocks me is that in some countries, for instance kenya, that profess Christianity, people still speak about ‘the church has failed us, how could they just keep quiet when the government is doing this!’

I often find myself asking who really the church is. And this is not because I’m a pastor and just out here to defend the church. Who really is the church? If we really understand what the scriptures says about the church, then in many cases, we are always shooting ourselves on the foot, when we accuse the pastors of being the church

”And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” Colossians 1.18 NIV

Basically this is what the Bible says about the church. The church is you and I! Us who are part of a Christian congregation. See what Marshal Segal wrote,

“The church is the regenerate people of God saved by the power of God for the purposes of God in this world.” This means we don’t stop being the church when we walk out of the building on Sunday morning. Instead, everything we do, we do as the blood-bought church of God, for the fame of Jesus, everywhere. Who is the Church?

I believe that after this, you will be very careful before shooting bullets and spitting fire to pastors and those who work in church full-time. But you will stand out and speak for, defend and protect the church, because you’re the church. I always do the same because i’m the church. The scriptures bessesches us in I Peter 3:8 NIV “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble..”Let us not tear down our pastors when we find fault with them, thinking that they are the church, because ALL who are members of the body of Christ are the church.
